Person of the day

Sam Altman — Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer · OpenAI

Co-founder and CEO of OpenAI and former president of Y Combinator. Why now: Abu Dhabi’s Media Office says Altman met Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed on Nov 2, and the meeting ended with four agreements between Abu Dhabi entities and OpenAI. ADNOC and G42’s Inception42 signed a deal making ADNOC the first energy company to deploy OpenAI’s frontier technology, running on in-country inference in the UAE; the Abu Dhabi Government launched a “Machine-Readable Government” initiative that turns a set of policies and regulations into a form AI systems can check against, with officials keeping the final decision; Mubadala signed on to use OpenAI models for investment analysis and risk assessment; and Inception42 signed a five-year agreement to bring OpenAI’s models to UAE government, enterprise and education. Altman said Abu Dhabi and the UAE are “setting a bold, global standard for AI integration.”
