OpenAI pares its fundraising goal · OpenAI
OpenAI is now seeking up to $20 billion in its latest round, down from an earlier target of about $30 billion, CNBC confirmed; the Financial Times reported a $1.25 trillion post-money valuation. The round is still open, so terms could change.
Intel sinks on AI’s memory squeeze · Intel
Intel shares fell about 28% on Friday after a weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter outlook, as AI data centers soak up memory and push PC prices up. The drop cut about $12 billion from the US government’s stake, even as Intel’s data center revenue grew 78%.
Apple Intelligence heads to China with Qwen · Apple
Apple says Apple Intelligence testing in mainland China starts with the iOS developer beta on Nov 4, with a public release in iOS 27.3 in December. Alibaba’s Qwen handles some requests in Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence; the new Siri AI isn’t included.
Person of the day
Lip-Bu Tan — CEO · Intel
CEO of Intel since 2025 and chairman of the venture firm Walden International. Why now: Intel’s stock had one of its worst days ever on Oct 30, falling about 28% after the company forecast $15 billion to $16 billion in fourth-quarter revenue, short of the roughly $17 billion analysts expected, a drop that cut about $12 billion from the value of the US government’s 10% stake. On the earnings call Tan blamed a PC slowdown driven by memory prices and availability, as AI data centers buy up memory and push PC prices higher. The bright spot is the other side of the same AI boom: Intel’s data center and AI revenue grew 78% from a year earlier, though the company says it is limited until it adds fab capacity and wins more outside foundry customers.
