Aidan Gomez — Co-founder and CEO · Cohere

Co-founder and CEO of Cohere. Why now: on Oct 29 Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will invest up to C$1.6 billion in Cohere, part of a planned roughly C$7 billion round led by Germany’s Schwarz Group that would value the Toronto company at about C$35.7 billion, the largest financing ever by a Canadian startup. In return, Cohere has committed to keep its headquarters and incorporation in Canada, create at least 1,000 technical jobs and spend at least C$1.7 billion on Canadian computing infrastructure by 2030. Before Cohere, Gomez was a co-author of “Attention Is All You Need,” the 2017 paper that introduced the Transformer, with his work on it done at Google Brain.
